In Memory

Linda 79-Hileman

Cause of death: Injuries sustained from an automobile accident. Linda was returning from Rawlins after seeing a movie. She and her companion were hit head-on by a drunk driver. Her companion survived with multiple injuries.

We all loved Linda very much. She was an incredible friend to everyone.

Man, I remember that day like it was yesterday. A sad day. Actually she was with Terry (Freeze) Olguin who was a friend and former neighbor of Linda's (who had moved to Glendo). He came by my house that day and told me he and Linda were going to the movie. My understanding is that a drunk driver crossed into their lane. Terry's injuries were to his left side and we played basketball against Terry's Glendo team the next year and he had very limited mobility with his left arm.

Everyone loved Linda. She was a great person...I liked to give her a hard time in Mr. Babel's class. She took it with a smile and dished it back.

I think of her all the time, we were very close friends and 4 of us (Janet, Laurie, Linda and myself) had just returned home attending the Denver Nuggets girls basketball camp, and we had such a fun time. I have many wonderful memories of her and her family.

I can't think of my time in High School, or the years of football, without thinking of Linda. It was a tragic loss of a wonderful soul. You might remember that the football team dedicated its season to Linda - sewing a patch with Linda's jersey number 40 on our sleeves. It was even more difficult for her father, with whom I was very close (no matter how much he yelled at me on the field). As a father I can't imagine going through it. His courage through the year was remarkabl and I often think about how his strength, as well as the way it bonded each of us, and the lessons we learned about life, have shaped me in many ways.

I echo Mark's response. We cheerleaders wore the number "40" on our sleeves, as well. Her grave is right next to my grandfather's, so every memorial day I get to "visit" her. I often wonder what her life would have become? Maybe college basketball, family, career? Who knows?
God bless you, Linda.

That was a terrible day, wasn't it? Terry Olguin had come up to work on our ranch outside of Encampment that summer from Glendo. He really liked Linda a lot and was starting to spent quite a bit of time with her. They were both great athletes, as anyone will attest to, so they got along really well. It's so sad that what started out be a lazy summer day in Saratoga turned out to be so tragic.

Dear Sis,

I miss you everyday.  You were very special in so many ways.  You would have loved knowing your nieces, Kimberly and Lacey, as they grew up.  When Kimberly was a baby, you always came and took her with you whenever you had a chance, sometimes I think that you had her more often than we did.    You would have made a great mother.  There are so many what ifs that remain unanswered since you are gone.  Your death left a large void that time never can fill.  Even though your gone, our love for you never stopped.
